Double prize winner

Alan has just achieved the distinction of winning first and second prizes in Recital Music’s 2012 Christmas Carol Competition.  Ring out wild bells was awarded first prize and I sing of a maiden won second prize.  Dr Christopher Maxim, a member of the judging panel, said: “Two pieces really stood out as the best. They happen to be by the same composer, though they are different in mood and contrasting in style. They are well crafted, with musical interest in all of the vocal parts. Harmony is used effectively with some lovely colours in places. Textures are deftly handled, with unpretentious counterpoint making a welcome contribution to the whole.” Both pieces will receive their first performance in December.  You can view and purchase the scores by following this link.
